REACTION

Students queuing up for food,
True colours began to reveal.
Air fills with rowdy voices,
Voices as loud as microphones!
Suddenly DM came walking by,
Became the centre of attention,
After minutes of gobbling Junks,
They began crashing their plates.
Leaving behind pieces of crumbs,
Then there's an eerie silence'
After spilt seconds of reaction,
Birds began springing to life!

1st stanza: Talks about long queue for food in the canteen, and finally, true colours began to reveal. This shows that the queue must be really long as the students shows their true colours, and furthermore the air was filled with rowdy voices, as loud as microphones.

2nd stanza: Suddenly DM came walking by,Became the centre of attention, this clearly shows the significance of a dm, as he was strict, one who create fear among student and was well respected by students.

3rd Stanza:After minutes of gobbling Junks,They began crashing their plates.Leaving behind pieces of crumbs. This shows that the standard of school's food was not matched to the poet's standard as the foods sold was referred as junks. And the stuents are showing their unhappiness of the food by crashing their plates, but the students does not have but of a choice too, as they too, finished their foods and leaving behind pieces of crumbs.

4th Stanza: Finally there's an eerie silence'After spilt seconds of reaction,Birds began springing to life! It shows that once the canteen was deserted with an eerie silence, birds then began to react, to eat the crumbs that are left behind. The birds too, are under the same circumstances as they too, have no choice but to eat what that was left, as fight for survivor was tought.
And birds began springing to life! shows that they are like the students in the 1st stanza. As both have began to show their true colours when the times come by.

Heheh... I like the diction used by Alex. Do you think there's a connection between 'true colours', 'rowdy', 'microphones', 'DM', 'attention' and 'eerie silence'? Everything is linked!! =) Love it! What does the presence of the Discipline Master do to the pupils and what image has the poet conjured up in the canteen? It woudl be surprising that the pupils can eat in peace and digest their 'junk' food properly having 'goobled' them up in a rush. The use of 'gobbled' also hints of the urgency that haunts the pupils as they clammer to finish their food and leave the place where the DM is hovering over. =) Funny scene, that is.

The poem is a reflective of our everyday recess time. Though the typography of the poem may look tedious and readers may be turn off by it.
