Lit A Light
A single candle glows
A source of light
A tiny little buzz
Awakens the silent night
Hope and faith
Have they won
Here it is
Here to stay
I lit
A light
I wish
It might
Just
Work.

Welcome to my simple blog. This is a pilot project. My intention is for this blog to be used by my Zhenghua Secondary School Literature pupils to engage in meaningful discussions about the poems that I shall be posting regularly and comment on their classmates' entries.
Let's see how it goes! =)

Hello! It's Davita here. Just wanted to say that you did a good job on the poem there. It reminds me of hope that comes with every candle that is lit. I think that's why people do it during festivals, its probably lightens and gives a sense of peace and 'everything is going to be all right.'
Pardon me for digressing. =)
Great Job again!
By the way,can i show you some of mine too? =D
Hi, Davita!
Sure! Go ahead and post your poems.
The same goes for the others too. Feel free to post your poems. Do be prepared for a variety of comments and different interpretations that could come from just about anybody though. =)
Happy New Year, everyone! See you all in school tomorrow. =P
Hey hey. Azyan here. :)
Well, basically the writer is trying to show that she's been trying hard to "lit a light" and also to do that, she finds it a problem as she has noone else to turn to except for herself, with "hope and faith".
Err. I hope this is a good start yeah? Hah. If I have some more ideas, I'll comment again. Heh.
Heyy,Fatinah's:D here.I think the poem is great. It has a deep meaning of achievement in it.Especially when the part from "Hope and faith" & "Have they won." Like Davita's has said,it kinds of give a glimpsed of hope especially from the quotes, "A single candle glows" & "A source of light." And I guess the candle light help to show some "hidden directions" that cant be seen during the night.
PS:Anyway,Mrs tan can you put tagboard or something like in the guides blog?Easier for visitors to give short comments :D
HuiYi here! From the first stanza, the poem shows that even "A tiny little buzz" of light "Awakens the silent night" which shows that a tiny little light can brighten up the whole place which may means that there is still hope. ;DDD
This poem uses an unidentified speaker, because the word 'I' is used in the poem, so the speaker is currently unknown.
Heyy heyy,ZuL and Alex here...i think the poem is wonderful as it is simple yet has a deeper meaning. The quote'a single candle glows'shows the 'hope and faith'. And 'a tiny little buzz' seems to represent a glimse of hope..
Bye from us [:
Hey2 ! Annie's here :D Hmm, actually I'm not good at unseen or poems. So I need more "training".
About "Lit a light",
I feel that the writer seems to be losing hope. & thus the writer lit a candle, hoping to feel more secure and having a source of "energy" to move on.
Harlow...Era here...
This poem tells me that nothing is useless, even when the thing is small.Just like the candle, when it is light up,everyone is awake. A small little help should always be appreciated.Sense of appreciative can lead you to succeed. And every cute little smile of yours is important. You might not know your smile could light up someone's day.
Every small little help is precious
Smile always everyone!!
Hi Fy here! I think that the poem is showing that there are always a glimspe of hope 'A tiny little buzz Awakens the silent night' and even something which are so small may still have a chance....
Hey, Asidah's here.
I think "Lit A Light" is an inspiring poem, giving 'hope and faith' to others.
I really like the ending of the poem:
I lit
A light
I wish
It might
Just
Work
It just somehow gives me the motivation[:
hello.. geraldine here..:):)
i think the author wants to show that even "a single candle" glow can be "a source of light" and "a tiny" "buzz" can awake a "silent night"..
Hi, everyone! I'm glad to read your comments. All your comments shed some light on the poet's motive for writing this poem and the meaning of poem.
For a start, our Little Red Riding Hood (Azyan) is right. The poet is trying to solve a problem. In this case, she is trying to think of ways to expose her pupils to more poems, so that they may apply their knowledge of literary devices through the practical criticism of the given poems. The motivation that Asidah gets from this poem is part of the poet's motive for penning this poem. *wink* ;)
To quote Fatinah, the poet has 'Hope and Faith' that this blog will achieve its objective as stated above. This blog serves as a lit candle whose light and warmth offers direction and a sense of security to her pupils. Feng Yuan, Zulhilmi and Alex share similar sentiments about hope too. Annie is quite right too, as this blog does not only serve the needs of the pupils, it also serves to reassure the poet/teacher that there is hope.
This blog is one of the many websites in cyberspace. Hence, it is described as a little source of light. However, because it is a source of light that glows and paves a way in the darkness, it is still able to offer guidance and hope to those in need. This is perhaps what Huiyi is suggesting. Era's perspective does not differ much here as her analogy of a smile is indeed very much alike a lit candle.
If I may refer to Era's, Zul's and Alex's comments, a smile is a 'simple' action, just like this 'simple' poem, but it just might have a big and long-lasting impact on those who receive it. =)
Azyan mentioned that in 'Lit A Light', there is an unidentified speaker. What do the rest of you think? Any comments on that? =)
